What is an electrical panel busbar system?
An eclectic panel busbar system is a bar of copper, brass or aluminium that is used within a switchboard, distribution board, substation or battery bank for conducting electricity.
The size of the electrical panel busbar system relates to the amount of current that will be carried through the electricity containing systems. These sizes can range from 10mm2 and can go all the way up to 20cm2. An aluminium smelter is an example of where a large electrical panel busbar system will be used.
The electrical panel busbar system is found in flat strip or hollow tube forms as these shapes have been proven to dissipate heat better as their surface area is higher than other shapes. Additional components called insulators will be used in conjunction to the electrical panel busbar system which will protect the busbar from accidental electrical contact. The busbars will either be surrounded by a metal earthed enclosure or be placed at a higher level than other components, to therewith prevent it from touching dangerous current.
Electrical panel busbar systems could also be attached to one another and then to electrical components by bolting, clamping or welding. Joints are preferably silver-plated to further prevent dangerous contact.
Electrical panel busbar systems are popular for use both indoors and outdoors, with voltages reaching up to 30kV, depending on its application. Therewith they will be installed inside switchgear, panelboards or busway. Within a distribution board the electrical panel busbar system is split from other circuits at one specific area. The busbars are then protected with safety covers apart from all other components.
There are many types of electrical panel busbar systems of which some types include:
- Hr-SST-60 1 pole support busbars.
- Hr-SST-60 3 pole support busbars.
- Hr-SST-60 4 pole support busbars.
