Outdoor electrical enclosure boxes are manufactured with only one aim in mind and that is to protect all electrical connections, motors and control boxes that are installed either outdoors or indoors, depending on the need. Depending on the area needed for use of the electrical enclosure, the two products will differ slightly in its design.
Here are some examples of the differences between the indoor and outdoor electrical enclosure boxes:
- With the indoor box, the material of manufacture could differ slightly in the way that it would have to be more pleasing to the eye. A very solid and treated wood, paintable aluminium or a treated and durable plastic could then be used.
- In terms of the outdoor electrical enclosure box, it would have to be made from a tougher and sturdier fibreglass material, as it would have to protect the cables against harsh weather conditions like rain, wind and sand storms.
- With an indoor box, it could be smaller and different in shape than an outdoor box, as it should be more unsightly so as not to protrude from a wall that could hinder the space of the room which is not a problem as it will only have to protect interior cables.

- The standard colour for an outdoor electrical enclosure box is usually the brown or sandy colour of the fibreglass, as this will most likely blend in with the outdoor theme.
- When compared to an interior enclosure box, it would have to be possible to be finished in almost any type of paint and ornamental accessory so that it will blend in to the theme of the room it is installed into.
